Internship application process
*Deadlines below are for submitting the WU internship application forms to the Internship Coordinator
- July 15th for Fall semester internships
- December 15th for Spring semester internships
- April 15th for Summer semester internships
*ALL steps to be completed prior to enrollment in the internship course
- Schedule an appointment with the Internship Coordinator (Dr. Patricia Dahl): patricia.dahl@washburn.edu. It benefits students to begin thinking about their internship course early in their junior year. The sooner you can discuss the internship course and your plans with the Internship Coordinator, the better your chances of finding an internship that meets your specific needs and goals.
- Carefully read the internship information packet! The Internship packet can be found below.
- Consider where you would like to intern from the list of authorized agencies. There are lists of potential agencies on our CJ Department website; however, you are not limited to these lists. (The final selection of a host internship agency requires approval from the internship coordinator.)
- If you desire an internship with an agency not listed, please contact the internship coordinator for prior approval.
- Contact the host internship agency to see if an internship is possible for your desired time frame. The prospective agency will likely want to interview you. Be prepared to answer questions regarding your interests, your time frame for completing the internship, etc. Most agencies require a background investigation, so give yourself time to plan and prepare for the internship application process.
- Once you have an agreement for placement with an internship, complete each of the following forms which can be found in the informational packet. The internship application forms must be reviewed and signed by both you and the host agency. Note: students cannot register for the internship course until the forms are completed and submitted to the Internship Coordinator.
