Washburn University, which historically prizes access to postsecondary education, continues to develop pathways that meet students where they are in their individual preparation. There is no minimum academic requirement for first-time freshman students to be admitted to Washburn. Each student will work with an Academic Advisor on a personalized pathway, structured to help them reach their academic and career goals. The Center for Student Success & Retention (CSSR) advises students who are Exploratory and/or students who are part of the Passport for Success or the Ichabod Ignite advising pathways. Both pathways are collaborative efforts between the Center for Student Success, University Library, Academic Affairs, Student Life, and Enrollment Management at Washburn University.

These pathways consist of coursework, activities, and services across a student’s first two years of study at Washburn University that are designed to put them on the path to college success. These pathways allow students to enroll in carefully chosen courses that work toward graduation and are designed to develop the student’s abilities and success behaviors.

These pathways adhere to the following criteria:

  • Courses and schedule are selected with assistance from a professional advisor, focused on helping students achieve their academic goals.
  • One-on-one meetings with Success Coaches and Academic Advisors every semester.
  • Enrollment in WU 101: The Washburn Experience during the first semester of attendance.
  • Connection to tutoring services.

Students will be contacted by their assigned advisor at the beginning of each term. For more information, please email advising@washburn.edu.
