The filing of a Formal Complaint is NOT required in order for supportive measures to be provided to the Complainant or Respondent
Washburn University is committed to supporting the safety and well-being of all members of its community. When someone experiences relationship violence, harassment, or another form of misconduct, the University can provide a range of interim and supportive measures to help maintain safety, ensure access to education and work, and prevent further harm.
Individuals can contact the Equal Opportunity/Title IX Coordinator or University Police to request assistance. The Coordinator will work with each person to determine which measures are appropriate and coordinate support with campus and community resources.
Possible supportive and interim (temporary) measures
Depending on the situation, Washburn University can provide a variety of supportive and interim measures to help ensure safety, reduce stress, and maintain access to classes, work and campus life. These options are available during and after an investigation, and some may be implemented even if a formal complaint is not filed.
Possible interim and supportive measures may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Changes to campus housing, class or work schedules
- Rescheduling of class or work assignments and deadlines
- Transportation assistance, including police escorts to car on campus
- Issuance of a campus "No Contact" or "Notice to Leave" order
- Mutual restrictions on contact between parties
- Obtaining civil Protection for Abuse or Stalking orders in Shawnee
County or similar lawful orders issued by another court - University imposed suspension or administrative leave
- Review of academic or behavioral issues
- Student financial aid services
- On-campus counseling and medical services
- Assistance in locating off-campus resources, i.e. victim advocacy, mental health, medical services, legal services, etc.
