Center for Prior Learning and Testing
The Center for Prior Learning and Testing administers placement tests and select standardized exams. The center also offers proctoring services, working with Washburn students and students from other universities as well as Washburn faculty to provide proctoring services on an individual basis. Before scheduling an exam, please make sure you read through all the Testing Center’s Policies and Procedures and review the Testing Services Price List. Upon arrival all students will be required to read and sign an Examinee Agreement Form which includes test center policies.
Placement Exams
Placement exams are tests designed to evaluate an individual’s pre-existing knowledge and use that information to place them in the most appropriate academic level for that subject. The Center for Prior Learning and Testing offers 2 placement exams: the Accuplacer and the ACT On-Campus
- The Accuplacer is a placement exam, which is not required, but primarily used by students to meet course prerequisites or determine placement for certain higher-level math courses. View more information about the Accuplacer and how it can help you choose the right math course for you!
- The Washburn University Math Department offers its own placement tests for MA112 Contemporary College Mathematics and MA116 College Algebra. Information about these exams can be found on the Accuplacer information page as well.
- The ACT On-Campus test is an alternate to the National ACT test. It is available to prospective students in the application process, admitted students, and enrolled students who were unable to take the National ACT test on a regularly scheduled test date. ACT On-Campus test scores are only valid at Washburn University. The scores cannot be transferred to any other institution or agency. Score reports will not be generated. Learn more about ACT On-Campus and what to expect.
Credit By Exam
Credit by Exam tests allow students to accelerate their degree path while saving time and money by awarding college credit for what you already know at a fraction of the cost of a college course! Washburn offers credit by exam options using the CLEP and DSST (DANTES) exams.
Prior Learning Transcripts
Recognizing that individuals gain knowledge outside a traditional postsecondary environment, Washburn University maintains a comprehensive Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) program. The University may grant credit through national/international examinations, university departmental examinations, and/or prior military training.
Examples of Prior Learning Transcripts include Advanced Placement (AP) Testing for high school students, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program, Cambridge College courses, the Seal of Biliteracy, and credit granted for Military Service. These transcripts should be sent to the University Registrar for evaluation. Learn more about Prior Learning Transcripts.
Proctoring Services
The Center for Prior Learning and Testing provides proctoring services for both Washburn students and students from other universities. Proctoring Services are available with limited capacity. Priority scheduling is given to students needing make-up exams or to Washburn students taking individual, non-Washburn proctored exams. Entire class proctoring services will be available if scheduling allows and will be subject to departmental fees. Learn more about proctoring services.
