ACCUPLACER
What is the Accuplacer?
The Accuplacer exam is a national standardized exam that students can use when attempting to place into Math and English courses that match their skill level. The exam is a series of tests that evaluate students’ skills in reading, writing, and math.
Who is the Accuplacer for?
The Accuplacer may be recommended for students who do not have an ACT/SAT score. The exam may also be taken by students with an ACT/SAT score but who want the opportunity to place into a higher-level course.
Is the Accuplacer the right exam for me?
Importantly, the Accuplacer is not required or recommended for placement into many Math and English classes at Washburn. The Washburn University Math Department offers its own placement tests for MA112 Contemporary College Mathematics and MA116 College Algebra. Please contact the Math Department for more information, or see the links below.
- For English course placement: the Accuplacer is generally not recommended - Contact your Academic Advisor or the English Department for placement options prior to scheduling an Accuplacer Writing exam.
- For Math course placement: See the chart below for the recommended placement exam for specific Math courses.
The Accuplacer exam is one option at Washburn for placement into higher-level Math classes with pre-requisites. Students should speak with their advisor or contact the appropriate department to learn more.
