About the WSGA Cabinet

Our WSGA Cabinet is led by the president and vice president of the Washburn Student Government Association. The Cabinet works together to make sure all of Washburn students' needs are met on all levels. Some of the Cabinet members oversee "standing committees" where they lead the committee in the direction that abides by the WSGA by-laws and constitution and best fits the goals of the administration.

The WSGA President shall represent the rights and interests of Washburn University students. They will create, oversee, and manage the WSGA Cabinet and chair all WSGA Cabinet meetings. In the absence of the Vice President, the President will preside over the WSGA Senate.

The Vice President shall assist the President in overseeing the activities of the WSGA Cabinet, any non-Standing committees or assembled boards, and be prepared to assume the duties of the WSGA President in the event that the President is unable to fulfill the requirements of the office. The Vice President acts as the Chairperson of the WSGA Senate and shall preside over all Senate meetings.

The WSGA Chief of Staff is responsible for overseeing the WSGA Office and ensuring that the decisions of the WSGA Senate and WSGA President are executed by the Cabinet. The Chief of Staff is responsible for the absence system. and shall serve as a nonvoting member of the Internal Affairs Committee.

The WSGA Budget Director is responsible for ensuring efficiency, safeguarding assets, the protection of records, adherence to prescribed policies, and the production of pertinent, accurate, and timely information and reports. The Budget Director acts as WSGA’s purchasing agent and must follow through with all financial legislation and paperwork.

The Legislative Research Director shall be responsible for developing legislation, planning advocacy days, and running all WSGA elections. This role should support Senators and the Administration throughout the legislation crafting process, including crafting and sharing the weekly Full Senate Agenda. This role should also stay up to date on and share civic engagement and advocacy opportunities. Advocacy days may include but are not limited to Higher Education Day and First-Generation Advocacy Day.

The Campus and Community Affairs Director shall be responsible for ensuring students’ voices are heard and wellness needs are met. This role is all about bringing people from the campus and the community together. Connecting students with resources and driving work on policy issues work are the cornerstones of this role.

The Student Accessibility and Belonging Director shall be responsible for promoting opportunities for belonging and connection across campus. This role shall connect with organizations on campus that cater to historically marginalized groups or those who coordinate support for students in need. The Student Accessibility and Belonging Director should be familiar with and raise awareness regarding topics of the campus and community, both historical and modern.

The Communications and Marketing Director shall be responsible for any media presence and external communication with students and campus partners relating to WSGA. This role should be in constant communication with other Cabinet members creating and managing content and promotion or events, programs, or initiatives. This role should be creative and innovative, looking for new ways to engage with the campus and share information effectively.

The Special Events Director shall be responsible for planning the annual WSGA events such as WUFest, the Big Event, and the end of year Banquet. The Special Events Director is the point person for anyone wanting WSGA’s assistance in collaborative or engagement events for students. This role also has the creative freedom to create smaller scale events internally or externally for the purposes of campus engagement and vibrancy.

This role is responsible for ensuring that daily WSGA operations are efficient and coordinated. Key responsibilities include assisting with the Allocations process, coordinating public communications, assisting with administration priorities, and supporting the implementation of Senate legislation. This Director works closely with Cabinet members and Senate leadership to ensure initiatives are executed smoothly.
