Planning for before, during and after your trip

Studying abroad is a journey that goes far beyond boarding a plane—it’s a transformational experience that begins long before you leave and continues well after you return. Whether you’re preparing for departure, navigating life in another country, or transitioning back to life at home, Washburn provides the resources and guidance you need every step of the way. This page brings together everything you’ll need—before you travel, while you’re abroad, and when you return—to help you make the most of your international experience.
Before you travel All study abroad participants (except those on virtual programs) are required to complete the Study Abroad Pre-Departure Orientation. The orientation will provide valuable pre-departure information, resources, and checklist.  Students will find it extremely helpful to do research before going abroad; understanding a country's culture, laws, customs, politics, etc. is important. The more you know ahead of time about the country of your choice, the better prepared and more confident you will feel when you arrive. student looking at swiss alps
